There’s a fat old man with a red hat and a gun sitting on my first switch. I’m gonna go ahead and see if I can fix the other switch while everyone else is getting run over.
Ok now it’s a trolley problem, except instead of a trolley it’s a US presidential election, and instead of pulling a lever you vote
From my viewpoint this is a good analogy. I would love to have the switch to kill 0 but I would not say its broken its still under construction and won’t be complete for some decades if we all work on it but it takes the majority to work on it and we know a majority won’t but people are dying right now and we can have more or less of them or work on the switch.
yes lets vote Democrats who are one of two parties that helped break the broken switch to begin
third parties do not work because the elites have shelled out enough funds to both parties to ensure they and their donors always come out ahead
That’s mostly because not enough people are willing to put in the work down ballot years prior to a presidential campaign to do anything. You have an infinitesimal number of 3rd party candidates holding local offices, almost none holding state offices, and only four independents in Congress (…two of whom are not running for reelection).
If you’re not seeing 3rd party people getting elected to state and national office, then voting 3rd party for president is obviously a losing strategy.
been plenty enough people to put in the work
can’t win with a rigged board
Given that independent (non-Democratic/Republican) candidates hold only a very, very tiny minority of all elected positions, I’d say that there have not been plenty of people putting in the work. Shit, look at local election; school boards positions elections sometimes have less than a thousand voters participating, depending on the school board. You should absolutely be able to get enough people knocking on doors to get Libertarian candidates (in Republican-dominated areas) or Green candidates (in Democratic-dominated areas) winning, if you just had people going out and knocking on doors.
But they don’t, because it’s all armchair politics without willingness to put in the real work. I’ve never seen a thing targeted at me for 3rd party candidates.
Here is the ugly truth (which I hate). Nobody is coming to save the Palestinians. The Democrats won’t stop the genocide and the GOP will accelerate it. Even if Jill Stein won the presidency, she would not have a single vote in the House or Senate. She would be completely powerless to do anything about Gaza. Veto? She’d get overridden in less than 24 hours. The fact is that the Palestinian genocide is not on the ballot in the US, but a whole lot of other issues are.
The struggle to reign in Israel, make them pay for their actions, force those complicit within our government and media out of power, and ultimately help survivors rebuild the nation that was brutally stolen from them is going to take a massive democratic (small d) uprising from the ground up. We need to start at the local level and work our way up. This is literally what the Republicans have done for decades and why they hold so much power.
So yes, lets fix our democracy. Let us get rid of the two party system amongst a mountain of other changes. But to do so, we have to have a democracy left to save, which we won’t unless Trump and the GOP is decisively trounced this election. American Democracy, or what is left of it, has cancer. We need to cut it out.
“I will never vote for genocide” incoming
Adding on to this: review your down ballot candidates! There’s a pro Palestine candidate in my House race with other good policies as well. One vote has a lot more impact for House races.
We have too many trolley problems for a nation with limited rail transportation to solve.
The American mind cannot comprehend the trolley problem, nor trolleys for that matter
It completely depends what state you are voting in. Where polling shows a certain winner, 3rd party can provide a signal for how broken the system is, and might bring a 5% threshhold durable gain for the 3rd party.
See I think its a bigger deal to send more of a signal to repbulicans. we need them to lose big and in no uncertain manner. They have a really small rabid base and I think we have more of a chance of literally eliminating that party the way the wigs were. Will there be new conservative party, yeah, but it should start much more towards center and we should then push massively left. As a matter of fact it could just become a split of the democrats.
If California was 65 Dem, 5 third party, GOP 30, it’s still a signal against GOP compared to 70 30 split. It is more of a signal for Dems to not keep ratcheting to the right.
I agree to not vote 3rd party in PA or MI.
Im not so sure. Their strategy now lays in winning with a minority using voter suppression, gerrymandering, bullying, and court decisions. 30 might be to low for all that to work but 35 just might do it and they just need to sway that 5%. Given how I have seen maga who where previously and oddly extreme left I can see that giving republicans hope.
California is a safe D for president. Electoral college system means that all that matters is how individual states vote independently. Most states give all of their electoral college “points” to the winner of the state. California is one of those states. It is the Red states with republican governors and congresses that gerrymander, voter purge, and voter suppress their “blue Urban” areas into having 4 hour voting wait lines.
I think you’re only allowed to be this cocky if you actually pressure your party after its election. You don’t do this, you forget about democracy the moment it’s most important to pressure your leaders. If the dem party allowed republicans to go this far it’s because they know they just have to put out some barely decent optics and then they’ll be off the hook for 4 years, winning or losing.
If things are as shitty as they are it’s also because of the people that wake up in time only to berate those who’ve been talking and protesting unheard for all these years, maybe with your voice the dem party would actually become desirable and not just the least worst option.
Maybe people will be more inclined to listen to you if you didn’t treat them like mindless sheep, somewhat ironically. Politics isn’t just voting, and it isn’t just voting the lesser evil, doing only that is literally how fascism finds purchase in democracy and you should stop being so high and mighty defending the party responsible for this inaction for so many years
What many people don’t realize, some know all to well, once the dems are established the democrat party out number the left voices that want to push back against it. They then go about shutting down all discussions. So, this year, and this is all too premature, if Kamala wins let her face the fire immediately. Don’t come out shutting down everyone who has something true but factually bad for Kamala. I know this is a bad look, because sexism, but we can’t go on like this where the president gets a infinite pass because they lock themselves up in the white house never to be seen or heard again.
I don’t see how is it sexist to hold a person accountable. It would be sexist to not do so just for the fact that that person happens to be a woman
Totally agree with the rest tho
It’s sexist because we would be treating kamala different and there will definitely be some that do it based solely on the fact that she’s a woman.
Why differently? Do you think it is impossible to criticize two sides at once?
so is part of the meme that the crazy conspiracy guy is actually right? i didn’t watch the show. but he is

The meme is from an episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Charlie here has taken a job with another character, Mac, where they are delivering mail in an office complex. Charlie is in the mail room all day while Mac chats up the office staff and pretends to work in someones office while they are on vacation. Charlie gets increasingly paranoid and cooks up this idea that none of the people he’s getting mail for actually exist. Mac informs him that not only do these people exist, but they are all wondering where their mail is.
So, no, in the show the crazy one, Charlie, is definitely not right, and almost never is.
Carol? Caaaarol?!
they are delivering mail in an office complex.
Or more accurately, Charlie is throwing the mail away because he can’t read the names of the people he is supposed to be delivering the mail to.

Palestinian lives and women’s bodies are a sacrifice gaming-chair leftists are willing to make for their sense of moral superiority.
I’m glad to hear that trump has said that he’ll stop arming Israel and will end israels illegal occupation of gaza.
Well, i mean, he must have or else the above would just be some of the lowest sophistry you might ever have the misfortune of reading.
No, Trump will undoubtedly make it worse. That is why enabling him to win regardless of the rhetorical contortions made to justify it is a knowing sacrifice of Palestinian lives that some so-called leftists are willing to make so they can be edgy on social media.
I 100% misunderstood you. Apologies, my mistake.
Wasn’t your error. The sarcasm was dripping off your earlier comment.

I mean, it beats voting for nobody or a third party, which is caring about NOBODY, regardless of how you try to spin it.
