the amount of hate crimes we see in the US will drastically rise, especially among people who don’t “look” or “sound” American, especially indigenous people. ignorance is now intelligence.

If you’re an American citizen in a red state, that looks visibly Mexican/South American and speaks fluent Spanish, you should lean into this! Go put on a serape, a sombrero, some chanclas and sell tamales or tortillas in front of the local mall right now while singing “Feliz navidad” - just be the full, lead-huffing boomer racist fantasy caricature. Get arrested and then get yourself a FAT settlement for civil rights violations… while we still have courts and judges who don’t have spray tan stains on their white collared robes.

We’ve been getting news reports like this and ones about Native Americans, and they are egregious, but it’s worth noting we’re not getting enough stories about the undocumented people and how badly they’re being treated. They’re people too. What’s being done to them is legal under this administration, but it’s evil.

I don’t know about you but we are getting a lot of stories locally about ICE. They just don’t make the mainstream news.

There are a lot of people who don’t pay attention to local news, only mainstream. Hell, there were people ON LEMMY saying the ICE raids were all hot air AS THEY WERE HAPPENING because they weren’t paying attention.

Hmm not to discredit this, but how does that work, being detained and having to produce a birth certificate … does one normally daily carry a birth certificate next to ones ID?

And if you’re detained without a a birth certificate while on vacation across the country?

Only ID on you? Go to prison?

No ID nor birth certificate and you’ll either get shot or deported?

What if you speak something else than Spanish or English amongst yourselves?

How long 'till the Trump administration mandates a form of ID on ones hand, arm, or forehead?

Lol. The religious nutjobs will really love it when he gives us a choice of the taking the mark (of the beast) or face deportation.

It would be awesome though if we were able to deport all the religious nut jobs. Though not for the places these crazies would be deported to.

Put them on an Ark - wooden, overloaded, cast adrift in the type of weather that would cause massive flooding, if you catch my drift. Of course, gathering two of each animal would be cruel, so we’ll skip those.

Do you think every US born citizen is going to suddenly carry around a photocopy of their birth certificate everytime they leave their house?

No, that’s why I didn’t list it. I’m suggesting I don’t doubt the veracity of the article because it’s just impossible to have access to a birth certificate. That is a simplification of the opinion of the guy I replied to.

If you don’t carry your federal ID with you at all times, there is no way to determine your US citizenship. Also, there is no federal ID. And many states issue drivers licenses to undocumented immigrants to avoid issues with unlicensed and uninsured motorists.

Benefit of the doubt would be to say it absolutely didn’t happen since proof doesn’t exist now. I didn’t say that.

It’s things like this that make it very difficult for me to tell my right wing shit head friends that spreading misinformation is exclusive to right wing shit heads. There are absolutely left wing shit heads who will spread any unsupported allegation that supports their own bias with no regard for integrity at all.

So thanks for having the integrity that others willfully lack, even if you only get to a few. You are a force for good in a kiddy pool of pee.

Hopefully, we start seeing civil rights lawsuits for the usual – 4th and probably 5th Amendment violations. You know, the classics.
