BertramDitore@lemmy.zipto World News@lemmy.world•Human trafficking on the rise as online scam hubs go globalEnglish6·5 days agoYeah honestly this has been one of my takeaways too, after hearing about these awful things a while back.
You never know what’s going on in the life of a stranger on the other end of a phone call, so respect and politeness is the best we can offer.
BertramDitore@lemmy.zipto News@lemmy.world•Murders are down nationwide. Researchers point to a key reasonEnglish46·5 days agoCovid is the reason, FYI.
But it’s of course way more complicated than just that, as they go into in the article.
They’re both really really close to perfect, and any native speaker would understand exactly what you’re saying with no problem, but I’d say them like this:
“I won’t be at my computer much today, I have to be somewhere.”
and
“It’s incredible how time flies! It will be Christmas soon!”
BertramDitore@lemmy.zipto Fediverse@lemmy.world•what are the lemmy "format" alternatives besides its standard ui?English5·5 days agoI use Alexandrite on my desktop and Voyager on my phone. Perfect experience for me.
BertramDitore@lemmy.zipto politics @lemmy.world•Zohran Mamdani declines to condemn ‘globalize the intifada’English17·5 days agoYes, exactly. People seem to be purposefully ignoring his answers. He has amazing message discipline and always gives, imo, the perfect response which balances empathy, morality, and political expediency. He’s an incredibly talented politician who has weathered the manufactured pushback, overt racism (fuck you Gillibrand), and criticisms better than anyone I can think of.
Also, I’m a Jew (not that it matters), but I think when all the ranked choice numbers are finally tallied he will have won the majority of NY Jews in the primary.
BertramDitore@lemmy.zipto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Venmo overdrafted my bank rather than use the balance in my accountEnglish26·5 days agoI feel you. It’s very expensive to be poor.
BertramDitore@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Any interest in a Lemmy community for Apple users who are fed up with Apple?English4·5 days agoYesss I’m all for this. I’m a reluctant iPhone and Apple TV user. I hate my iPhone, but I hate it slightly less than all the various androids I’ve had over the years. I’d love a place to vent.
BertramDitore@lemmy.zipto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the biggest scam you've fallen for?English4·5 days agoYeah this is why I’ve stopped using Craig’s List. Most of the listings, last time I was looking, were scams. I lost a few ”application fees” and was always ghosted. I’ll never again respond to an ad that has any fees whatsoever until I can see with my own eyes that the property is real. Hunting for a place to live sucks so much.
BertramDitore@lemmy.zipto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Netanyahu Says It’s Antisemitic For Israeli Soldiers To Describe Their Own AtrocitiesEnglish14·5 days agoI, as a random Jew, am not responsible for the actions of the Jewish terrorists in Israel, or any other Jew for that matter. Just like a random Muslim isn’t responsible for the actions of Hamas. It’s pretty insulting to suggest otherwise.
BertramDitore@lemmy.zipto Games@lemmy.world•Hesitating getting a Switch 2 (1st game console in 15 years)...English8·6 days agoThe other day I thought to myself, “huh I’ve got a few extra bucks, I think I’ll buy a switch 2.” Then I saw that zelda costs $80. So nope, no switch for me.
I’m someone who has never played a switch, never held one, and I was about to impulse buy it. So I’d be a brand new customer (my last Nintendo product was the NES), and now I won’t be. Their loss.
BertramDitore@lemmy.zipto politics @lemmy.world•Kirsten Gillibrand Doesn’t Seem Bothered by Palestinian DeathsEnglish4·7 days agoHoly shit, really? I didn’t know that. That wild.
BertramDitore@lemmy.zipto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is it bout all those new Accounts that joined 22-23 days ago?English7·8 days agoYep, same here.
BertramDitore@lemmy.zipto politics @lemmy.world•Mike Johnson opposes bipartisan war powers resolution to authorize Trump’s Iran strikesEnglish9·11 days agoYeah the title, and frankly the article, is shit. They couldn’t have made it much more confusing if they tried.
Johnson wants Trump to be able to bomb, this resolution would have told him he has to stop bombing. Johnson is against the resolution, so he’s okay with Trump bombing.
He also doesn’t think Congress needs to affirmatively act to give Trump war powers right now, which just exposes the fact that Johnson doesn’t understand his own role in government.
BertramDitore@lemmy.zipto Privacy@lemmy.ml•US embassy wants 'every social media username of past five years' for new visasEnglish15·12 days agoThese immigration raids and terror tactics are terrible on their own, but it’s especially absurd when Native Americans get caught up in it, and it just fully exposes how disingenuous and transparently racist the whole effort is. So I’m sorry that your peoples have to suffer even more because of this racist mindset.
From a January article:
”If you can’t say, ‘we’ve been here for time immemorial,’ then you’re an immigrant. You’re not from here, so who are you to classify our Indigenous people? These lands have been a melting pot for many ethnicities,” Hatathlie [a Native Arizona state Senator] said.
I heard another more recent example of a car full of Native Americans being pulled over, aggressively questioned, and asked for their papers, but I can’t seem to find it. It’s utterly shameful how we treat people.
BertramDitore@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What grocery items are always worth the extra $1-$5?English6·16 days agoI agree with every part of this.
A while back I was standing in the butter section, waiting for a couple to move so I could grab my pricey-but-worth-it butter, and overheard them talking about how butter is a scam and it all tastes the same no matter what. I had to hold back a chuckle. They of course grabbed the cheapest option and went about their lives in complete ignorance of the glory of high quality butter.
I still wonder if I should have said something to encourage them to try a better butter, but they talked about it with such blind confidence that I didn’t feel right about it at the time.
BertramDitore@lemmy.zipto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•star wars clone wars trying to find a season a episode numberEnglish3·19 days agoYeah, exactly. It seemed important to them to stress that Ahsoka’s training was different from a normal padawan’s, thanks to Anakin.
BertramDitore@lemmy.zipto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•star wars clone wars trying to find a season a episode numberEnglish11·19 days agoThat’s “Practice Makes Perfect.” Episode 5 of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi. It’s a miniseries that came out a couple years after Clone Wars ended.
No Mans Sky is totally a time guzzler. It’s incredible how easy it is for hours and hours to go by like it’s nothing. It’s a really fun game though, and I’ve sunk hundreds of hours into it.
I did one playthrough shortly after it came out doing things the way you’re supposed to, and then I decided to just have fun with it and started using a save editor to give myself all the resources that take ages to farm or craft. That was a game changer. It’s so much more fun when I can just explore and build without having to worry about not having enough fuel for my jetpack, or not being able to finish a building because I don’t have enough resources for that one last piece of glass, or having to salvage a fuckton of ships just to open up inventory slots.
So if the game ever starts to feel like work for you, I suggest using a save editor and going to town. The devs don’t seem to have much of a problem with it, and it really opens up the game.
