I didn’t realize for way too long that the song “Ironic” had no actual examples of irony in it, and that in itself is ironic. Blew my mind.
You heard about that guy that took too much acid and couldn’t sit down because he thought he was a glass of orange juice and he would spill?
That rumor came up in his autobiography and he wrote -
“If I really got my ribs removed, I would have been busy sucking my own dick on The Wonder Years instead of chasing Winnie Cooper. Plus, who really has time to be killing puppies when you can be sucking your own dick? I think I’m gonna call the surgeon in the morning.”
Side note: Marilyn Manson is a peice of shit.

They would be all like “oh shit, AI is going to take our jobs in the future?” not knowing that their jobs were replaced decades ago by autistic people with dial-up internet making GameFAQs txt files.

ADHD@lemmy.world•What is your favorite kind of fidget toy/stim toy?English
2·5 days agoOoh, that flipoy chain looks fun. I’m going to have to get one of those.
My favoritrs are a nice heavy metal 3 prong fidget spinner I got bacj when that craze first started. This bike chain gear sprocket one - not sure how else to describe it, but it’s two gears, one bigger than the other, and a bike chain going around them. It’s neat.
But my real favorite? My absolute love it to death favorite? Some Stimagz. They are little magnet rods and they are infinitely amazing. I do not use them anymore and it honestly took a while to break the habit. Why don’t I use them anymore? I swear I started to develop hand pain. It’s like I was on track to give myself carpel tunnel. My right hand was starting to get stiff and painful and I couldn’t figure out why, and I realized it started happening about a month after I got my Stimagz. I had them in my pocket 24/7 and no matter what, when, or where, I was fidgeting with them. I put them away in a drawer and stop using them, and bam, hand pain cleared up. They were like fidget heroin. I wish I could trust myself around them, but I know I would just get carried away. The safest way for me to use them is to not use them at all.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Buying a new car has become unaffordable for a growing number of Americans. The auto industry is worriedEnglish
2·5 days agoIs there anything like a miata for bigger people? One of these days I plan to own a home and would love a project car. People always seem to suggest a miata because they are cheapish, repairable, and have a huge community modding them. The problem? I am 6"4’. Maybe I could go with a convertible miata and wear goggles.

29·7 days agoAI or not, I feel like everybody has had “the incident” at some point. After that, you obsessively keep backups.
For me it was a my entire “Junior Project” in college, which was a music album. My windows install (Vista at that time - I know, vista was awful, but it was the only thing that would utilize all 8gb of my RAM because x64 XP wasn’t really a thing) bombed out, and I was like “no biggie, I keep my OS on one drive and all of my projects on the other, I’ll just reformat and reinstall Windows”
Well… I had two identical 250gb drives and formatted the wrong one.
Woof.
I bought an unformat tool that was able to recover mostly everything, but I lost all of my folder structure and file names. It was just like 000001.wav, 000002.wav etc. I was able to re-record and rebuild but man… Never made that mistake again. Like I said. I now obsessively backup. Stacks of drives, cloud storage. Drives in divverent locations etc.

Games@lemmy.world•Games you've given honest tries for and just don't find funEnglish
62·7 days agoI played that game for about 30 minutes. I got to one of the first areas, picked up some “fetch quests” where I had to kill some type of creature and return their pelts for a prize and some exp or whatever and I was like “Oh… A mid 2000’s MMO with no other players. No thanks!”
I also remember feeling that all of the movement, animations, and actions were really jerky. Like nothing felt like it flowed correctly. Things were kind of “snap to grid”. Not sure how else to explain it.

They left out the apostrophes and dropped an “L”
It’s about a crisis that America has been coping with for a while.
Fent an’ y’all
It’s a TV show about a dog named Fenton (or Fent, as they call him) who is also a cowboy that is a hero of his community. It’s a spinoff of the show “Heroine” which was about a female superhero who had the ability to save people by miraculasly removing any pain that they felt. But it got kind of too dark when people started depending on her to be there and couldn’t survive without her. The public didn’t respond well.
Anyway, there was another spinoff of the show Heroine called “Purdue and You” about a similar hero named “Oxy”, and it was basically just the same plot of Heroine but a little bit more family friendly and the audience seemed to accept it more even though it was the same thing.
So now “Fent an’ Ya’ll” is kind of building on the popularity of both of those shows, but it’s just got much more impact. It’s like each episode feels 100x stronger. You’ll feel love, you’ll feel joy, and it might just leave you standing there doubled over. People are hooked.

Technology@lemmy.world•Asus and Dell announce new mini PCs for Windows 365 | Goodbye local OSEnglish
1·13 days agoThe only real case I can think of where people like thin clients is when they move between stations. I worked at a hospital that used them and it was a fantastic solution. A doctor/nurse/whatever could walk up to any station, beep their ID, and a couple second later their session would load up. It was a huge pain in the ass to build and maintain though. These new devices might actually have a benefit there. Managing W365 through Azure/Intune is leagues easier than managing Citrix with Windows VM pools.

453·15 days agoSo instead we get gigantic investment funds spinning up hundreds of LLCs named things like BRIIINKLW like those shitty Amazon brands. They funnel each one of them 140m, and control a bunch of small individual businesses through an “outsourced” MSP that handles all of the business side and is also owned by them, but because they don’t own the properties or the assets, it doesn’t matter. Money gets funneled the way money gets funneled, through investments and donations etc.
“That’s just the nature of VCHT. It’s a closed system and thousands of components ship-wide that fail daily. With one commode control valve failure, depending on the location brings down the entire zone”
The engineers looked at an old string of Christmas lights and thought “Yes. Yes this design will be perfect for the bathrooms of a multi billion dollar military craft that all of the crew members rely on wile out at sea. There’s no possible way it could go wrong.”

14·21 days agoThat literally covers all streaming platforms. Go after Netflix lol good luck. Also YouTube? Also basically the fucking internet? Like what the fuck?
“If it smells like shit everywhere you go, check your shoe” sums it up pretty nice

So let me get this straight. Companies were like “instead of paying one senior dev 300k and 5 junior devs 150k, we can get rid of all the junior devs and give the senior dev AI to do all of the legwork thus saving us 750k.”
And then they found out that AI costs money. So instead of ponying up the 100k in tokens for the senior dev to to their job, they are saying “Hey senior dev, we are taking away your bonus and replacing it with tokens! You can take it or be out of a job, because we refuse to keep anybody on board who doesn’t use AI to replace 5 junior devs”
So these cheap fucks saved 750k, and are upset with the fact that they might only save 650k?
While also destroying the planet to generate shitty code.
I fucking hate this time line.
