Europe@feddit.org•How the Netherlands engineered its asylum crisis — and turned it into a businessEnglish
2·16 hours agoI don’t believe the government intended to create a business from the migrant crisis though, it just happens to be where their choices brought them.

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•The "Freedom of Russia" resistance movement destroyed dozens of locomotives across Russia, targeting their control systems to disrupt the transport of military supplies to the front.
171·16 hours agoI sincerely hope that after Ukraine wins the war, the parties that now support Ukraine will go on and support the people in Russia and Belarus instead of going back to doing business with the likes of Putin and Lucashenko. The people there risking their lives deserve it.

Europe@feddit.org•UK to criminalise protests outside homes of public officials under new lawEnglish
1·2 days agoThis is how it should be in a just world, but we do not live in one
I agree, but if we as people do whatever the fuck we want the politicians won’t have a good example of how they’re supposed to treat people.
and the only reason we even have basic human rights at all is because they were violently protested for, and 99% of the violence came from the state.
We the people do have allies within the state, although there are plenty of places were those allies are kicked out as soon as they do some good, not all states are an enemy of the people. Again, i too believe we should uphold politicians to high standards and we should praise them without good reason, but the least we can do is treat them as decently as we’d like to be treated ourselves. But i guess if i was living in a place where national politics was a mess like the UK or US, i’d be less willing to defend the basterds that are breaking ‘my’ democracy too. Not judging anyone in that regard.

Europe@feddit.org•UK to criminalise protests outside homes of public officials under new lawEnglish
112·3 days agoThough i’m against criminalizing protesters, i do think people who do bad things on their job also deserve a private life. If they break the law they should be brought to court obviously, but if they act within the bounds of the rule of law protest should be against the movement or the system that allows this bad individual that does the bad thing. I’ll get some downvotes for saying this, but i believe we should not only be decent to people who do things we like, but to literally everyone.

Imagine all kinds of other products had a warning like this. Don’t wear sunglasses and walk on the street, you may be killed. Don’t use wet wipes and walk on the road, you may be killed. Don’t play videogames and walk on the road, you may be killed. Guess at least they warn of how dangerous it is near cars.

Europe@feddit.org•Netherlands: Violence erupts at anti-immigration protestEnglish
5·2 months agoThey sure are, and they didnt went there as football hooligans. Point is there was an organised effort to instigated violence by a group that is different fromt the group that organised a peaceful protest - even though both groups have similar political views.

Europe@feddit.org•Netherlands: Violence erupts at anti-immigration protestEnglish
21·2 months agoDutchie here - the violence wasn’t instigated by the right-wing protesters but by football hooligans who tend to have similar views on migration. I think it is important to make the distinction especially since English language reporting on this is much more alarmist imo.
