Lucky you … I’m up in northern Ontario and in most of the places up here Sudbury/Timmins/New Liskeard/North Bay … the supply seems to have dried up over the years … we used to see lots, now we see a lot less.

Here in Canada in Ontario, up until about five years ago, they used to sell panettone everywhere during Christmas … grocers used to stock them everywhere and about four or five different brands. Cheaper ones came in all plastic wrapping and more expensive ones came wrapped in plastic and contained in fancy decorative cardboard boxes. And back then, we had the choice of size and they were usually large sized.
Now we have limited supplies and the displays for them are even hard to find. We only have one brand now ‘Massimo’ and they are more the smaller size. Every year now, all my Italian Canadian friends go on a frenzy looking for them … as soon as they come out, they disappear.
Don’t know what happened to the supply but we don’t see much of them any more.

0·28 days agoYeah … knowing America’s track record … after he dies, his name will be mocked and removed everywhere … then in a hundred years (or less), there will be a new neo-MAGA movement that will revive his name and everyone will debate about his legacy all over again.
We’re on to your dumb games America … you can’t be trusted any more.

Videos@lemmy.world•Camping in Snowstorm With No Tent, No Sleeping BagEnglish
9·1 month agoMy parents took us on lots of camping trips and I went with them until I was about 18. Then I continued to do it on my own and with friends for a while. It’s been years since I did a full on wilderness camping trip. We’re from northern Ontario and we went out every time of year - bug infested hot summers, wet rainy spring / fall and freezing cold winter.
When you do it often enough, eventually you end up in situations you didn’t plan for … getting stuck overnight, unexpected rain storm / winter storm, equipment break down. Then you just break a quick basic camp, hunker down and wait for the morning or the storm to end. It’s the only option, otherwise you risk getting into more trouble if you keep going. But it also doesn’t mean you’re happy about it. I got stuck several times overnight in the middle of nowhere cold, wet, hungry, tired and miserable … it’s all doable and survivable, it’s just not very pleasant.

But what these videos never or seldom show is that you have to be willing to be absolutely uncomfortable, cold and miserable the entire time.

During the worst of the fighting in WWII, allied ships when they could still took the time to pick up and rescue enemy sailors in the water.
So I guess, unless you are able to give a Nazi war salute to the German Fuhrer, you might have a chance of being rescued.
