News@lemmy.world•"They’re taking Shirly": An Army sergeant thought his family as safe. Then ICE deported his wife.
27·8 months agoThis other article mentions it:
Correa expressed disappointment in the Trump administration, feeling betrayed after voting for him and serving the country, as he believed only violent criminals would be targeted.
Maybe they are planning to take back that spectrum they gave to Boost/Dish on a pinky-promise that they’d actually become a competitive network, during the Sprint and T-Mobile antitrust case.
Which would fit with the FCC’s increasingly mob-like behaviour under Trump.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you think Lemmy has a culture separate from Reddit or is it basically the same?
132·8 months agoI’ve seen less whining about downvotes, “you can’t say x on y subreddit” meta comments, and general persecution fetish stuff. Probably just due to less people, but it’s still a relief not to have to see it constantly.

Android@lemdro.id•First PS3 emulator hits the Play Store, goes open-sourceEnglish
25·8 months agoThey are violating the GPL by not including source code for their modifications. I’m not sure about using the word “stolen” in this context though, but I suppose language evolves.
A dick move in any case.
Everyone’s life is different. Some people spend more time working but have more opportunities for breaks, and others have shorter hours but more a clearly delineated work-life separation where they must be working through the whole period. There are people with a large amount of responsibilities outside of work, and others that have little to none.
Anyway, it’s not true for all but many people do have the time they just choose to spend it on other types of entertainment. Sometimes consciously, other times because TV and social media are the path of least resistance, even if it’s less satisfying.
My suggestion is to consider a Steam Deck and use the suspend function readily. You might not have hours to play, but maybe you can pick up 15 minutes here and there, which is more satisfying then you might think.

politics @lemmy.world•Fetterman spotted with Bannon at DC MAGA hangout: Report
12·8 months agoI’ve been thinking recently about whether Oz would have been better as a PA senator, hindsight is a bitch.
He’s probably doing more damage as head of Medicare and Medicaid then he would have as a senator. Maybe both would have happened, but there was more opportunity for him to fall out of Trump’s graces if he had been in government for a few years.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Microsoft dives into the handheld gaming PC wars with the Asus ROG Xbox Ally
3·8 months agoWell, I did say “maybe with a real d-pad”, it’s just the thumbsticks that aren’t necessary.
I actually did play with the Steam Controller for years using the trackpad as d-pad. It was more of a comfort thing that made it less than ideal which was due to the shape/texture of the original SC, but I could live without it personally if it’s done right.
I’ve even played shmups with it, with the right settings, but I get there is a learning curve and its easier to use a physical d-pad.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Microsoft dives into the handheld gaming PC wars with the Asus ROG Xbox Ally
6·8 months agoI understand the trackpads somewhat since they take up space, but the lack of back buttons is inexcusable.
Personally though, I’d buy a trackpad only deck (maybe with a real d-pad) but I know I’m in the minority on that one.

3·8 months agoNeeds to provide FSR 4 to compete with Switch 2.
It can’t unless FSR4 is backported to RDNA2/3. There’s some work on Linux to do that, but there is a significant performance hit at the moment.

- Not the only way to interact with the device
- Supports open, local-only protocols like Zigbee or Matter

5·9 months agoI was talking about Nacon (the new/old WRC publisher) not EA or Codemasters, but agreed.

News@lemmy.world•Kennedy says COVID vaccines no longer recommended for healthy children and pregnant women
3·9 months agoThere are public health and epidemiology degrees that would be more useful for this role than studying medicine (although doing both would be helpful, and many do). Brainworm doesn’t have any qualifications so it’s immaterial, of course.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What's your recommendation for a small NAS?English
2·9 months agoIt’s just saying it’s not supported, not that it doesn’t work. Depending on your country, I doubt that warranty voiding claim is enforceable either.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What's your recommendation for a small NAS?English
2·9 months agoAlso, if you get one of their units that has an ARM chip inside instead of an intel one, there is basically no chance you’re ever going to be able to use anything other than the software that they have by default.
Their x86 models are fine as you imply, just avoid ARM and you can install any OS you want.

Games@lemmy.world•After parting ways with EA, WRC gets new home and six-year deal to "reboot" rally seriesEnglish

Games@lemmy.world•After parting ways with EA, WRC gets new home and six-year deal to "reboot" rally seriesEnglish
25·9 months agoSeems to be just going back to the previous publisher, which didn’t exactly release amazing rally games when they had the license. Maybe they’ll surprise me, but I suspect Dirt Rally 2.0 and Richard Burns Rally will continue to be the main options for a while longer.

News@lemmy.world•Dr. Oz, billionaire John Catsimatidis offer to take B.C. ostriches ordered killed due to avian flu
15·9 months agoThey don’t even care about the ostriches, just want to push their “bird flu is just a cold” propaganda.
The ZOTAC handheld looks interesting, and while it’s nice to see decently sized touchpads, they are very low on the device and it seems like that would be uncomfortable to use.
A bunch of back buttons would have mitigated the issue a little, but it seems like there is only two, which is a shame.

Signal has been a good option because you can get “normal” people to use it, which hasn’t been true for many of the alternatives (except Telegram, but that’s a mess).
