Yet we are full of bots that repeat “content” in communities without taking into account how federation works (or that they might be on the same instance already).
It would be worth trying to shut them down for a while (a week?) and see how much the feeds curate themselves.

At least I think it would lower the musk-spam and tech news might actually be news and not social news about billionares or companies.

That control needs to be more granular than on/off.

Because the rest of humanity is still plugged in to the matrix and bots are the only way we can hear them and discuss where they’re taking about

That would require for bots to actually be tagged as bots and I’ve seen a couple that aren’t (it’s more like people use their account normally but also use some script linked to an RSS feed to post things as soon as they come out).
Also I don’t want to block ALL the bots, and blocking those specific accounts would kill the feed for some commuties (mostly things like “news”) since nobody else posts but bots or scripted accounts (since people see those accounts posting everything, there’s no incentive for anyone else to contribute).

That’s why I’d like to see lemmy without bots or automatic posts, just people sharing what they actually like and not what other sites tell the bots we must see something.
