Are you sure those are Blazers? They look more like Tahoes, and they’re common as first responder vehicles, which the one on the left appears outfitted as.

I’m also not sure that’s a real Hummer; something looks off about it. There are companies that sell kits to make other vehicles look like Hummers and I think this might be one. The current Blazer is 76.7" wide and 67" tall. The Tahoe is 81" wide and 75.9" tall. The Hummer H1 is 86.5" wide and 77" tall. Ten inches would be pretty noticeable side-by-side with a Blazer I would think. Even if these are Tahoes, a real H1 is a bit taller, and I think these look a little taller than the Hummer, which again makes me think it’s a kit.

The H1 remains a ridiculously wide vehicle (while lacking interior width for occupants from what I’ve read) for civilian purposes. The height was tall, but also not out of the range of normal compared to work vans. I don’t think I would worry about height clearance in one except for very low parking garages.

You might be right about the Chevys not being Blazers.

I don’t know why the police would have a kit Hummer. The interior looked like a real HUMVEE, with tiny seats, a wide partition down the center, and a spartan dash and instrument cluster. It even has a big, circular hatch in the roof.

The police have a real humvee because the army gave it to them. My city’s police has an APC and mrap.

I could be wrong, but the windshields have that delamination haze that’s common on older bullet proof glass/lexan laminates. That’s what makes me think it’s actually a humvee.

Just from image searching “hummer h1” and “humvee,” this looks like a humvee to me. The angle of the back seems to be more squared on hummers vs humvees, and the strip to separate the windshields seems different too, as do the mirrors.

And it would be consistent with the militarization of police as you noted. Why buy an inferior hummer when you can get the real deal for free or cheap from the military? The hummer is a luxury vehicle, the humvee is a workhorse, and if real mil not natl guard they’re bulletproof. Only thing they’re missing is a key system lol, just flip the switch (halfway, wait for the light, finish flipping,) and go!

Meh, they don’t have keys on fire trucks either and nobody steals them. Same halfway, all the way switch to turn it on.

Tbf, I want to steal a humvee SO MUCH MORE than I want to steal a fire truck. Never even thought about stealing a fire truck tbh, and now that I am I’m against it, they’re needed for emergencies. Humvees otoh…

I must have misunderstood because the title and the reply we’re under both mention “hummer” and “h1” by name, my mistake.

Unless those kits include switching the frame out, that’s a real Humvee. You can see the frame and suspension.

We’ve become more conscious of the impact we’re having on the planet, that’s why we’re making smal… no, wait… shit.
