“To those people who are saying, ‘Well, I can’t support Harris because she disagrees [with] Trump on that issue’ … he will be closer to Netanyahu,” Sanders said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Sanders said he thinks Vice President Harris can be moved “on that issue” of the Israel-Hamas war.

Harris has called for a cease-fire deal and pushed for the war in Gaza to end, but she faces scrutiny from both sides — from people who want to see Hamas defeated and those who call for the end of the war in Gaza.

“So, if we are able to elect Harris, I think we’re going to have an opportunity to move her on that issue, to make it clear, we cannot allow children in Gaza to starve to death,” Sanders said. “She will be open to that. I doubt that Trump will.”

I mean AIPAC isn’t going anywhere after she gets elected. The most we’re going to hear are some more terse words. Israel and Russia are both fighting for control of this country, and whoever makes it to the president’s spot isn’t going to change that anytime soon.

We have a pretty serious fight in this country too not support Israel in this war.

            AIPAC

A lobbying organization that represents the interests of a foreign apartheid state should not enjoy so much influence.

We’ll see how she reacts after the election.

I’m worried that Democrats will interpret it as a mandate to maintain course regarding Gaza.

The problem is, Joe can’t be the first to seize power, because that act would end democracy.

Also, to end democracy you need the buy in from most of the administrative state.

That’s the huge part of project 2025. Dismantling and rebuilding the administrative state into something that will support authoritarianism.

Biden has not, and will not, do any of that work for a future dictator.

The thought process is basically: If we win, it’s because we moved to the right. We should move to the right more. If we lose, it’s because we didn’t move far enough to the right. We should move to the right more.

If no candidate can do the right thing in the face of genocide because a foreign apartheid state will pay for them to lose, this election is not about protecting democracy in the US. Democracy is already dead in the US, and we’re colonies again. This election is about choosing which toady will implement the will of our owners.

He is right. Trump will do whatever the evangelical hard right want, which in the case of the Middle East is to pump as much support, weapons, and money into Israel, purely so they can trigger Armageddon and try to fulfill their wet dreams of Supply-Side Jesus coming down off his cloud. Also doesn’t help that trump is a flagrant racist who would be happy to see more ‘brown-skinned’ people die.

We will kill them slowly vs we will kill them faster.

For a year now instead of escalation, the democrats allow Israel to commit a genocide in Gaza, continue genocide in west bank, attack Lebanon, attack Iran, attack Yemen.

All three ask for is “ stop genocide in Gaza “

Slow death is far more preferably then it isn’t incurable and terminal. It creates an opportunity to stop the death. A peace agreement a year from now under Harris means way more people are still alive than if it’s under Trump.

That’s all that should matter. Slowing it gives time for intervention and for an opposition coalition to grow. This conflict has been going on for decades. Do you really believe things would be better if Israel just killed everyone 20 years ago? Do you believe things will be better if Israel kills everyone now, versus this conflict still existing in 20 years?

Consider to what actual Palestinians in Gaza are saying. They have a clear preference for Harris over Trump.

If I was in a swing state then I would vote for Harris to prevent Trump from getting in, but I’m not in a swing state so I’m going to vote for a candidate that I actually like.

Since my state (California) would never turn red, the best thing I can do in my vote is to help my actual preferred candidate get access to campaign funds.

But again, I do think those in swing states should do whatever they can to prevent Trump from getting in.

Your second sentence does not imply your first, and if you pay any attention you’ll see significant differences. My LGBTQ+ friends and family, for example, will not have the same experience under each party. Nor will women or Black people. Nor will schoolteachers or schoolkids, or anyone depending on all kinds of public services.

Yes, both parties are corporatist, capitalist, and pay more attention to the rich. But only one is preparing a fascist theocracy and promising revenge on everyone who doesn’t match their narrow template for an acceptable human being. To say both parties are the same reveals a certain ignorance and perhaps the privilege not to be affected directly by the differences.
