I don’t think it is quite a done deal yet, but all the blockers I’m aware of are gone. :)
Yeah it’s not over. It needs to pass Turkey’s parliament, and Hungary still hasn’t dropped their objection yet (but they’re likely to).
Can we like, kick Hungary in the shins or something so they drop it…while making eye contact with Turkey?
Unfortunately, no:
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday introduced a new condition for approving Sweden’s membership in NATO, calling on European countries to “open the way” for Turkey to join the European Union.
That was hours before their announcement to let Sweden in to NATO. As far as I know, there has been no confirmation regarding letting Turkey in to EU, as NATO and EU are separate entities.
