Tesla has used about 12% of Canada’s first-window quota for Chinese-built EVs, the only automaker yet to move volume under the new system announced last January.
Global Affairs Canada data show 2,910 vehicles imported under the quota as of May 29, against a cap of 24,500 for the window that opened March 1 and runs to August 31.

Car shipments from Shanghai adds roughly four to six weeks, so even permits filed on day one would not have landed cars much before mid-spring.
The 2,910 figure equals 11.9% of the window’s allocation, and competitors have yet to register a single unit.
At this pace, Tesla could claim a large share of the 24,500 ceiling before the window closes at the end of August.

China’s larger geopolitical ambitions are directly opposed to Canada’s. Helping a hostile foreign government make surveillance and economic inroads into Canada is treasonous.
China hasn’t said they want to annex us, the us has. China isn’t actively promoting fossil fuels and making it harder for us to switch to renewable tech. China does some bad shit, right now they are looking a whole lot better than our neighbour to the south.

Nothing is wrong with me. A rival doesn’t have to explicitly state their intentions FFS. Chinese cops policing Chinese-Canadians on Canadian soil, chinese intelligence assets caught infiltrating government and tech companies, Chinese expansion in South China Sea and exertion of control of Taiwan and it’s fabs. China has been engaged in geopolitical maneuvers for decades with belt and road and it ain’t to strengthen Canada but to strengthen China is relation to Canada, and everyone else.

I don’t have to be a tankie to say, “hey, this is clearly a mutually beneficial way to deepen international relationships,” while you’re crowing about how Chinese people don’t believe in breathing or something. So if you want to backup your claim with how allowing Chinese EVs into Canada will be against Canada’s interests, or how doing so would advance some other Chinese interests that would negatively outweigh the benefits of allowing Chinese EVs, I’d love to hear it.
