Not even deregulation. we had a cheap efficient program that held screw worm out of north america. Basically we irradiated male grubs which sterilized them, then froze the fly’s and dropped them over an area to prevent them from breeding and spreading.
This was cut because we were operating outside the US and why should other countries also benefit from our tax dollars.
The dumbass ‘gubment bad’ crew fucked us all.

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•Biggest print so far. About 42 hours and 2.6kg of filament. No, I don't have room for a table saw, how did you know?English
1·9 days agoor angle iron/aluminum.
I am really impressed by the quality of print of this, I have tried 3d printing a bunch and am constantly impressed by what folks (not me) can get out of these machines.
At the same time I am confounded by what people choose to print. This geometry is waaaay simpler quicker cheaper to achieve without 3d printing.
also I can’t get this output, so…

6·10 days agoA table saw is not really needed for this sort of thing. A router with straight edge guides would work for dados for the shelves. Technically you could CTL with the router too, if you didn’t have a circular saw.

1·11 days agothe parental control thing is a thin smokescreen. Its about control.
The reality is our OSs and the websites we visit know exactly who we are. They know our blood type, they know if you are pregnant before you do. Why would they need your ID?

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•It took shockingly few generations for our ruling class to become morons
5·17 days agoExactly. They want to be perceived as smarter (basically look down on the unwashed masses.) They don’t want to do the work to be more educated. Hence the hurdles they can put in front of the poors while they get to pay for fastpass to skip the line directly into the ivy leagues.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•It took shockingly few generations for our ruling class to become moronsEnglish
34·17 days agoThey were NEVER smarter. At most at one time they had more leisure time and access to books and tutors when reading and books were rare. That made them more educated, and they want to go back to that desperately.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Should street racers who accidentally kill people really go to prison?English
26·21 days agoLet’s break this down and look at it a different way.
If my hobby were shooting guns and I were to set up a shooting range in my garage and I killed a neighbor, am I responsible?
If my hobby were fireworks and I was making them in my kitchen and burned down my apartment building killing 3 people, am I to blame?
The driver is engaging in a dangerous hobby in a reckless manner. We all know racing is dangerous because people die even in controlled conditions. We know he is being reckless because he is not racing in a place designed for it. When you put others in harms way based on your own stupidity, you face consequences.
you ever been on one of those plastic lawns in the hot summer? They will blister your bare feet.
I’ve been given some equipment that recorded my breathing and heartrate (little tubes near my mouth and nose, chest strap). just check em out and return them the next day.
I’m in a similar boat. Over an hour commute, younger kids with afterschool activities 4 days a week. A wife has a full-time job, luckily, she finally finished her master’ so we reclaimed Saturdays and I’m not running the taxi service solo.
Shit is exhausting, but I am glad our daughters got to see their mom a accomplished something so huge, and I’m proud to have supported her along the way.

7·2 months agogotcha. What about assets? Im not an accounting person, but we routinely buy tooling for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Raw materials have costs/value associated with them. How would that figure in?
my kid was playing on a swing in a community park in a neighboring town (an expensive place to live). She found a big baggie of cash, looked like mostly singles, but it was maybe 2" thick. I told her to put it back and not mess with it. Maybe it was someones birthday money, maybe it was some other nefarious source. no matter what I don’t need that in my life, I definitely don’t need my kid dealing with it.
