Games@sh.itjust.works•Rockstar Games fires over 30 employees, all were part of pro-union Discord group, "one of the most blatant and ruthless acts of union busting in the history of the games industry"English
42·1 month agoIn case anyone thought the “rockstar” being referred to was Joe Strummer, it’s actually Gene Simmons.

41·1 month agoAlso, with the way people are around here, a Facebook or Google centred community would just be smartasses shitting on Facebook and Google and anyone that tries to post about them.
I see this hasn’t changed much since I was last here on Lemmy. Even this comment chain, I’m replying to, instead of suggesting nicely to OP to start a community and get something going here, it’s snark and sarcasm. And I know that would put me off, if I was considering making a community before that.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most impressive video game mod you've ever come across?English
11·1 month agoFor me personally it has to be certain rom hacks from before the era of decomps and creation kit style tools.
I was fairly active in the gen 3 Pokemon hacking scene on the pokecommunity forums back in the day. And hex editing and trial and error was one thing but real wizards were the ASM hackers that could completely out of the box stuff like adding in new move effects or character customisation functionality or day and night systems, to games that had none of these.
Those were actually the trailblazers that led to all the decomps we have today that have made it so easy.

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•Tunic is awesome and I wish more people talked about itEnglish
13·6 months agoThis is my first time hearing about it personally. But I don’t watch streamers personally. Sounds just like my kind of game, honestly, so thanks for mentioning it. I’ll definitely check it out.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Pineapple on pizza is always hotly debated, but do you think Pineapple belongs on a burger?English
6·6 months agoI think that people should be allowed to like what they like and there’s no debate. And anyone that wants to debate someone else’s tastes can fuck off.

4·6 months agoDefinitely. I only got easy internet in my pocket after school. Before that, I was raised by Sonic the Hedgehog and Captain Planet in my childhood years, and punk rock in my teenage years. And it was never a phase, mom.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•What is something you like to tell people?English
1·6 months agoNothing. You’ll have to pry it out of me. Unless we’re talking about social media, in which case I think I have a bad habit of saying too much.

memes@lemmy.world•Tumblr used to be funEnglish
7·6 months agoI tried Tumblr out briefly not long ago, finally. And I guess I’ve missed the good days? The place feels a little too much like a shopping mall as opposed to what I was expecting. These tumblr memes always gave me ‘old internet’ vibes but what I saw was a lot closer to modern Facebook style.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What apps are you using in Waydroid?English
5·6 months agoNot using it but I’d probably use it for a Lemmy app tbh. The average Lemmy app seems to have way more useful features than the vanilla desktop experience. Other than that, probably just games, although it’s not like the same selection on Android is exactly stellar.

Reddit@lemmy.world•Of course he hasEnglish
42·6 months agoThe really funny thing about Spez is that he’s far from a power player in the tech scene, nowhere near the likes of Musk and Zuckerberg. But he so desperately wants to be that he actually just looks sad and pathetic in the process.
Wtf is he going to do with his stockpile of motorbikes during the apocalypse? Start a Mad Max biker crew? What a fkn loser lol.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If there was any TV show that was cancelled or cut short that you could see the planned continuation/ending of, which would you choose?English
41·6 months agoIn recent memory:
- Swamp Thing (cancelled after one season on a cliffhanger iirc)
- Y: The Last Man (cancelled after one season but at least all of the season 1 sub plots ended nicely)
- Stargirl (like The Owl House, which I agree with, had a good and pretty satisfying ending but still ended prematurely)
- Sandman & Dead Boy Detectives (not going to watch Sandman season 2, Dead Boy Detectives ended on a pretty major cliffhanger and I was enjoying it)

Yeah that’s fair. Although Reddit also has a lot more users, so the snarky people and the ones that can’t just scroll past something they don’t like stick out more.
So I think, in terms of conversations like this where the bottom line is there’s just not enough users to have all the same communities as Reddit, people could maybe be a bit friendlier to noobs or towards communities they don’t like.
Like, I remember when I first got here, I was still interested in discussing Reddit, so I was around the Reddit community for a bit. And I remember so many people around there just interacting in bad faith. Yes we know Reddit is shit, thanks, your take is isn’t hot, it’s years old.
It wasn’t completely off putting but pretty fucking annoying. In general it’s pretty fucking annoying.
But as you say, Reddit was the same, so it’s not like it’s a Lemmy specific issue. And probably can’t be helped without iron fisted levels of moderation that no one wants.
