  • The thing we’re not prepared for is to respect trades; we can barely respect anyone as it is but trades especially are seen as “stupid jobs”. It’s also insane that basic rights and comfort within a job seem foreign in those fields, such as basically only existing as jobs with dogshit, early hours, if they’re even consistent to begin with, and toxic workplaces where people are expected to break themselves and be infinitely subservient to their bosses.

I like working with my hands and yet have zero desire to put myself through that bullshit. If it were a good environment I would happy to be anything from a mechanic(I do that work on my own cars) to a lineman but the whole thing is fucked.

  • We’re constantly more productive and never see a reduction in work hours, only more work. You bring this up to one of these fucks or their simps and they say “sure, but when will the work get done?” as if that comment makes even the slightest amount of sense.

The very first thing we all need to do is stop working so hard. The rich don’t have any real skills and they have no power without the people they exploit.

  • They love hockey and endure the cold? Bro I very clearly tried to come around a little bit but holy shit if that’s what you go to first for similarities and not major cultural differences, like the fact that much of the state actually voted for Donal Trump, then this conversation is not going to move at much of a pace.

And yea, there’s been a change but to be honest it’s been the classic people not paying any attention. We still voted Liberal in the past despite them always being very similar to how they are now, and their trend right-ward has always been there. They’re always elected because they try to scare people out of voting NDP, not because they actually offer anything that special. It’s literally why they went back on the voting reform they ran on in 2015.

Also “…” are not replacements for periods.

  • You said that you wouldn’t put the US super far right of Canada. At first I argued but honestly, with our level of ignorance despite the facts screaming at us, it’s pretty correct to say that we are largely a center-right nation right now and only getting further from progressiveness.

I’m speaking for the country as a whole since that’s the level of generalization this conversation already started with(state-wide in Minnesota’s case). We, meaning Canadians as a whole, are quite ignorant of politics, generally just doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result because learning about new things is harder than just stereotyping the branding of our ideas of each party. Has all the energy of Conservatives genuinely believing that the Liberals are woke progressives just for the majority of the country.

  • Good. People from outside city centers need tonaccept the fact that their low-density neighbourhoods are not nearly as valuable as the mid- or high-density neighbourhoods of cities and also it’s not the people in the cities’ jobs to bulldoze their own shit to let a few people drive their stupid cars through it like they own the place. You grossly over-estimate the value of “visitors” and under-estimate the value of make cities accessible to the people who actually live there.

Also, pedestrian streets, when it comes to smaller purchase stores(no couches or fridges), are overwhelmingly better for businesses but the owners refuse to believe it because they’re scared. Even then, I went to one appliance store partly because I could take the metro there and didn’t need to drive and then just got the fucking thing delivered for free. Never had to involve my car once, which is good because it’s not big enough for a washing machine anyway so I’d have needed to rent a U-Haul anyway.

What I’m saying is: I hope your city makes the right choice in the end and ignores the stupid people in favour of being objectively correct.

  • The fact you don’t at all hnderstand why we wouldn’t want you, aren’t understanding what this person is saying, and seem to want to tell us what the problem is despite us laying out why we don’t like you in very clear language is exactly the kind of bullshit that makes us want to stay far, far away from that garbage.

The US sucks, and even at its best it’s nowhere near even the mediocrity that is Canada. We do not need to tip the scales even further right, we do not need to throw gasoline on the fire.

  • Sounds like they probably should have been a little bossier. This is i credibly serious stuff and they just let it move at a snail’s pace? And what, it was so important and they were so sure they’d win the next election? The next election where they had momentum, realized it was because of progressive messaging and appealing to younger voters, and then tanked the whole thing with center-right branding because they haye winning?

No matter how you slice it it was weak bullshit.

  • Yup. All we got was PP, or the Conservative party at least, getting a win after becoming even more extreme and Carney, someone who has absolutely proven that he does not care about the working class, as the leader of the country.

Insane that we always tell ourselves that it’s the left that needs to give up their beliefs to bolster the center and never the the center that needs to grow a spine and support the left.

I voted NDP, and I’m going to keep doing it. The Liberals do not represent me in the slightest and will not get the benefit of my voice.

  • What are you talking about? People are dead, not just from ICE but the danage he’s done to healthcare and people’s ability to care for themselves has more than definitely led to more death and suffering. Trade deals have been fucked completely up and even allies who have done so much to pretend that the US isn’t a volatile, evil place are finally admitting it. The Democrats have been given permission, again, to move further right. The Whitehouse, as boring a building as it is, currently has a massive hole in the side and it garden was paved over. Billions of dollars have been wasted, thrown straight in the fire.

No, it’s time you admit that you can’t just vote the current evil out of office and have everything be fine. Even a win against the right will only be the first step in a very long fight to get on track.
