Same. I have very cautiously taken some recommendations from my brother and liked them. But for every one I liked, there were 100 I didn’t and the online weirdos who got way too intense about them.

State College in the late 00s. For sure we stayed up late, solving the world’s problems (theoretically) as only young, not-yet-jaded people can. There were also people who couldn’t go three days without getting blackout drunk and I tended not to be good friends with them due to lack of common interests.

I also didn’t meet a single Jewish person until after I graduated college, there just isn’t much of a Jewish population where I grew up, so I’m deeply skeptical of that theory.

So he wasn’t cancelled. Some people were critical of how he said some things. That’s the way people work.

I could post “the best spaghetti sauce recipe” and I would get people telling me I’m an idiot and wrong about Italian culture and blah blah blah. That’s not cancellation. Any opinion, no matter how benign, gets crap on the internet.

They have established the process and the precedent, next time it will be a woman only 5 months pregnant. Or who has an ectopic pregnancy and is past six weeks. Or was raped. Or isn’t in a financial situation suitable for raising a child. Or simply doesn’t want a child. It doesn’t matter the details, cops have and will use private messages to prosecute women getting abortions.

The arguments that “because of her one comment about wanting to wear jeans again means she was just a careless, shallow woman who didn’t want to take responsibility for her actions and got what she deserved” is a load of crap. Not saying you are doing that solely, but that is not a good argument for not caring about privacy.

Because I don’t see a reason to change. And changing would cost a lot of money and effort and impact. You’re the one proposing a change - why?

There are more reasons. This is just the one most recently in the news as a glaring red flag real-life example.

My youngest sister has never watched Sixth Sense so that’s the plan the next time one of us visits the other.

I suspect even though she doesn’t know the twist, it has invaded pop culture references and memes enough that she will figure it out early on in the movie. I remember even just knowing there was A Twist^TM was enough for me to spot what was coming much earlier on than the reveal. Really looking forward to seeing what she thinks of the movie from her Gen Z perspective.

Yeah, I would call that a “killer of the week” format. There is a new crime/murder every week. Sometimes there is a season-long story as well (Natasha Lyonne’s character running away from the Vegas baddies) and sometimes it’s just the killer of the week story. Murder, She Wrote is a good example of the latter; you can watch MSW episodes in pretty much any order, it doesn’t matter because each episode is basically self-contained. Any story external to the killer of the week is just to service actors being replaced or setting Jessica Fletcher in different locations beyond her hometown so she can face a new killer of the week. MSW is a whodunnit and also a killer-of-the-week show.

It’s been a while for me and I never did watch all of them, but no, I think Sherlock is a whodunnit, heavy on the drama, plus the twist of some narration from Watson’s blog.

The first episode opens with several people seemingly taking a pill to commit suicide. But someone is making them do it somehow. We don’t know who, we don’t know why. Who did it? Whodunnit genre.

Where if it were a Howcatchem genre, the identity of the baddie is revealed up front and the episode is about how the detective figures it out and nails them. How did the detective catch them? Howcatchem.

Monk, if you ever saw that one, would sometimes do whodunnit episodes and sometimes howcatchem episodes.

Found within my own home/possessions, a jolly rancher hard candy.

Out in the wild, a geocache. I go searching for them intentionally on occasion, but I also just spot one while I’m not looking and those are my fave. Especially the really tiny ones, “oh, that bolt on that stop sign looks a little weird. Hey, it’s a nano cache!”

I also go hiking a lot and it’s always fun finding plants I have high confidence that they are edible. I cooked up quite a bit of wild fern this spring, now it’s berries and mushrooms.

The subgenre Columbo falls under is a “howcatchem” or an inverted detective story, as opposed to the more typical “whodunnit”.

Just in case OP likes that setup and wants to keyword search for more. One I like and has a second season in works is Poker Face starring Natasha Lyonne.

I’m pretty darn explicit when I invite a person over to help with beer what it will entail; lots of cleaning, wear comfy clothes that can get wet and dirty, there will be heat and weird smells, and a small amount of physical labor. Still want to come? Cool. If not? Swing by in 4-6 weeks to enjoy a beer with me after it’s fermented and carbonated.

And I never invite more than one, maybe two people. Anymore than that and folks are just standing around, unable to participate. If you have a genuine interest in teaching on your end, and a genuine interest to learn from a friend or two, I would recommend changing your approach to how you plan these events and try again. It sounds fun but one-teaching-a-group sounds like very challenging logistics.
