Counterpoint: I lived in Sweden and I miss that winter’s gloom. Sure, it’s dark before the snow falls but it gives you something to look forward to.

Sounds like Canada anywhere not near the ocean. I’m in that same boat, and I’ll happily trade the stupidly hot summers for two extra months of winter.
I miss the moderate summers of Scandinavia in that regard. Sure, it rained a lot, but at least you could go outside without roasting to a crisp in minutes during summer.
So very true. Dressing for cold is so much easier than heat it’s mindboggling to read some of these summer fan comments. Like, do you guys actually live on the same planet as I do? Cause this one sucks the minute temperatures go past 20c.
Thank you for perfectly describing just about all the reasons I would skip summer altogether if I could.
The one missing complaint from my end is that you can’t do anything outside or in a non-AC building without instantly sweating like you took a shower with your clothes on.
And don’t get me started on everything being on fire. The only thing worse than regular summer is a summer where you can’t see the skies for several month’s due to the smoke and you have to worry about your house burning down all the damn time.
Couldn’t agree more with the OOP.

Wasn’t it Trump who cut pandemic preparedness last time too. You know, right before the last global pandemic that killed over a million Americans?

Not sure why the west is so eager to shield Israel from their responsibilities, but Netanyahu and co should stand trial for their crimes against humanity. But so should Khamenei.

There is simply no excuse for this, both sides should be held liable for their war crimes.

It’s almost like they’ve lost faith in human capabilities to the point of assuming humans are incapable altogether.
This is literally the same mindset that “aliens did it” conspiracy thinkers use, and I think it’s incredibly sad to see.
Never heard of that one, and I am sure it’s not the animation in question, but it’s an interesting suggestion nonetheless. I’ll check it out.
It’s from the start of Mickey and the magic beanstalk. The voiceover really ups the misery by talking about how they’re destitute and their spirits are broken, and Donald and Goofy both go delirious from the hunger at one point.
Of course, after that tear jerker the typical Disney magic sets in again and the whole thing is largely played for laughs, but those first few minutes are intensely sad IMHO.
I agree with the message, but I just can’t watch that clip of Mickey, Donald, and Goofy being so destitute and downtrodden without getting intensely sad. To whomever hasn’t seen the original animation this is from, prepare to feel worse than the opening of “Up” when you finally look this up.
ZC3rr0r@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•The Christian Movement That Wants to End Canadian Self-Rule10·1 month agoHow can anyone look at the complete and utter shitshow down south and think “yeah, I wanna be part of that”? The US is in declime by just about any accepted metric, assuming you can ignore all the blatant human rights abuses being conducted out in public long enough to even look at metrics right now.
There should be no reasonable argument for a Canadian to want to get annexed other than sheer, unadulterated, racism, transphobia, or fascism.
And if you support any of those things, I think you’re the one who should get annexed personally by being relocated to the down south trash heap.

Great reframing device put forth by the author, even though the article hammers it a bit much for my tastes.
The larger question however remains unanswered: How do we motivate people to do their part in keeping everyone safe? The suggestions in the article have either already backfired (vaccination mandates at schools, works, etc), or are only really effective if a disease has already started to claim lives (the “fear” method the author rightfully dislikes).
I’m honestly wondering how we can ever get that antivax genie back into the bottle it escaped from. Perhaps letting some virusses run rampant every now and again to remind the public of the risks is the price we’ll need to pay 😕
At this point it’s practically the official dub. As it should be, because it’s hilarious.

Wow. I am shocked. Who could’ve guessed an expansionist regime would break a truce with the intent to continue their territorial expansion. This must be the first time in recorded history this has happened. /s
