For context

where I grew up, almost every immigrant houshold had a satellite antenna, to watch channels across the world. Since my parents were immigrants, we had to turn the antenna each time we wanted to watch either local news or news from our country of origin.

It doesn’t download anything and also does not fetch any local media. It uses jackett to scrape sites like 1337x.to for magnets, sends these magnets to realdebrid/alldebrid and gets a streamable link back which you can watch instantly.

By arr-suite… I meant the automated setups that people do, to get stuff downloaded directly into the movies/shows folders, hoarding huge MKV files, etc… Sorry for the confusing wording.

I don’t use the arr-suite myself, but I think you’re on point. Since It doesn’t download anything, and gets the streams directly from RD or AD, there’s no need for overseer.

You .ight be careful though, because RD doesn’t allow using their service from multiple locations at the same time (whatever thsat means)

Jellyfin uses the *arr suite, but Odin relies on a debrid service. The benefit is that nothing is hoarded on the device itself.

For USB sure… it’s kinda “newish”. But, I mean, they could’ve intervened much sooner, when glue became the standard for assembling phones.

Looking back, I suspect this was only an argument to make them hard to repair, as always, just worded in a sense like it’d benefit the customer.

FFS, just add some rubber… We’ve used rubber in condoms for centuries (kinda) succesfully, what made them think glue’d be better… I ain’t gonna put glue on my ding-dong, if that’s what they’re after all these years.

while 2027 is better than nothing, I still wonder why it took them so long. Glue in smartphones has been around for probably a decade now.

Also, I think, anything that has a battery, should be user replacable… even teeny-tiny earbuds.

Can we bring back the charging as well, and not just the USB cable… Oh, and while you’re at it, screws instead of glue, to replace batteries would be awesome.

Exactly. For now, it’s main focus is to only move configs to the dotsdir (since stow throws a conflict when there’s already something in place), let stow create the symlink and push it to git.

on a remote mashine, however, you still need to handle conflicts yourself. but it’s also mostly intended for fresh installations, or where you don’t mind just rm -rf the existing config

yes … I fixed that too, using -t and -d now.

Oh right… thx for the hint. It’s indeed German, and I usually write it as machine or mashine, when writing in English. This time I was just unfocused 😅

oh hey… thx for the input… just did some refactoring… never realized there was also a git -C workdir <cmd> since I never use it.

Exactly… but it still adds some overhead, which I’m honestly not a huge fan of.

At the end of the day, I want a single directory, where I can symlink the files and folders into their appropriate places, and share them across multiple machines, all that, without digging too deep into the tool, especially when I frequently update things, like a neovim config, etc…

And stow, paired with git, does exactly what I need. I only made some “aliases” to simplify the workflow.
