Nacho Libre
lol I know, it’s a silly ridiculous fuckaround, but it’s sweet and stupid and wholesome and sometimes that’s what I need.
I can and do appreciate artistry in cinema, but you didn’t ask about that. Nacho is one film I’ll just always be happy to watch.
It also got me through half of a stay in a hyperbaric chamber when I got the bends, and I’m very claustrophobic, so big credit to it there. Panic attack didn’t start until the speakers malfunctioned five minutes into Amelie, and I was suddenly too hot and 1000% certain the chamber was going to catch on fire and kill me.
Nacho soothes.
The regex redirect feature is another massive pro. I hope they bring it into Orion as well.
I already use Stop the Madness for this, and probably will continue to as it’s a more global solution, but having it built right into the search engine at least shows they’re taking real steps to hand control back to the user.
My go-to is to ask what they like to do in their spare time.
A lot of the time you’ll get answers about how they have none or how it’s filled with chores, but you can always redirect and say, if you suddenly had a bunch of free time just for yourself, and you couldn’t use it to work, what would you fill it with?
In my mind the latter gets you down to what brings them joy, and in some cases how they want to see themselves, which can tell you a lot about a person.
Even if they did (they won’t), they can pry my mini out of my hot, irradiated hands.
I think the best we could hope for is a simple firmware update, assuming enough of the right people make noise about it. I’m sure Apple would much rather we all just bought new phones though, so they won’t do anything unless they have to.
Oh I didn’t mean to imply otherwise - Overcast is awesome.
I guess I worded my question poorly. I’m more asking if there’s any way to block trackers without blocking the entire podcast.
The stream/download just hangs, or errors out because it “cannot connect to creep.noteventhehost.fm” or whatever - just won’t load at all until I unblock and it’s able to do its dirty work.
Not sure if this is even within the capabilities of a client… I’m starting to think not, and that I’ve asked a stupid question lol
If you live near water, kayaking can be an incredibly immersive pursuit in nature that doesn’t really tax the body (unless you want it to)
Trail running is another one of my favourite things to do, but while much safer than MTB still can have some risks… minimal though, comparatively speaking
Ok this actually got a laugh out of me.
You’re not wrong.
You can filter out instances with Memmy now, via Settings > Filters
I’m super pissed about this.
I have a ton of client domains registered with google, and squarespace’s pricing is double.
They had by far the best platform I’ve used for managing domains. This sucks.
Yeah I wouldn’t hate this quite so much.
But then the creator gets the ad revenue instead of the platform, and they just can’t have that can they.
One of my fave podcasts is hosted by an intelligent, genuine woman who happens to have a very soothing voice. She covers topics that matter to me, and as a person who has sensory issues, the fact I’ve never found her jarring is rare. I wish I could pay to skip the ad service she uses, because I’m just trying to be calm and peaceful and learn something that’ll improve my life when some prat jumps in and starts yelling at me about a casino or some irrelevant trash.
Bring back creator vetted ads. At least they’d be (hopefully) more relevant and fit the tone of the media I’m choosing to engage with.
Mlem is coming along nicely. It’s a far cry from Apollo, but I feel for the devs in this space; they weren’t ready! It’s a lot all at once.
I’ve been flipping between mlem and kbin (as a pwa for now)
Kbin does have a bit more to offer right now in terms of customization, but it’s barely out of prototype phase itself. You can have a compact mode experience there, but both options are limited and struggling to catch their breath, in their own ways.
Mlem just implemented comment collapsing which I definitely appreciate.
At the same time I’m not mad about the lack of polish in this stage. A lot of the things people hated about reddit came from a particular type of mean-spirited and/or low-effort user… maybe the requirement of a little effort and patience/empathy on our parts now could be to our ultimate benefit :)
I don’t even watch sports and I get buried in gambling ads.
Only started after moving to a somewhat struggling blue collar town, but it was immediate, and the pure volume of it was shocking. Really hit me wrong.
Adblock and VPN everywhere possible now. Degoogling, containerized browsing, hardened settings, like damn basic privacy shouldn’t have to be so much work.
