You have to be in a position of power to make meaningful change.
To rise to such a position requires sacrificing some morals and breaking a few eggs.
The higher you rise the more wealth you need to punch up to accomplish your goals from those who don’t respect you.
As the richest person in the world you now need to fend off all detractors, keep your frenemies happy to stop them turning on you, and use your power to finally make meaningful change, through several layers of lost perspective and forgotten empathy

8·6 days agomake([] [] byte, 0)Does this make a double nested byte array of size 0?
As in, every element is made up of two iterators (adjacent cell, and then the nested cell), but the first element doesnt exist yet?
That’s why it’s fun to ponder them
It’s less accepting the uncertainties, and more seeing familiar patterns and constants and wondering of their nature. Why Pi, why 3 visible human dimensions, why the golden ratio in so many flora and fauna, why quark trios.
The scientific answer to many of these is “Nature of the universe, energy minimization dictates, we have Math models”, all which are fine answers. But you do still question why those values/patterns compared to others, and the truth is we may never know. If we do, that’s amazing(!), but if not, that’s probably alright too.
Plenty of religious scientists. The more you learn, the greater you are aware of how much is uncertain. You can still believe in a God whilst respecting the scientific method of iterative reasoning and refinement

I don’t, that’s the crushing part. I remember it was a guy who also wrote a story about spring-powered vehicles, or about a bollywood dancer getting married to an AI until she cheats on it with a real human at which it crashes a satellite onto her lovers house
He was a talented writer, very english sounding name, fascinated with India I think
I’ve read a sci-fi novella with this very premise. Indian guy uses an AI guide designed by his roommate to pick up (sparse, almost non-existent) indian girls. He catches one with a cheesy pickup line to do with a TV show, but it turns out the girl’s AI was the one interested, and not the girl herself.
In the end, the AI bots fall in love, but the guy is crushed when he finds out the girl just wants to play the field a little (girls are rare in this setting). Frustrated with his efforts, the guy decides to go out dancing with his roomate, who liked him more than a friend all along

And they were roommates
