Uhh, is this not a direct reference to that song? I immediately took it that way…

News@lemmy.world•Gavin Newsom comes out swinging against California billionaire tax
9·7 hours agoThe treatment of Bernie in the 2016 primary also made me lose faith in our form of flawed Democracy. Living in a red state, primaries are my only chance to have any effect on the national Democratic Party and 2016 made it obvious they would accept no challenge to the status quo. Superdelegates are plainly undemocratic, but the post Citizens United world makes both parties absolutely beholden to the corporations.
We literally can not have a candidate that is against business and therefore can not have a candidate that is against fascism.
That said, I will probably continue to pull the lever on my purely symbolic, utterly pointless, placebo vote for the lesser of two evils because people don’t understand that the only non-voters that matter are the ones in battleground states.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump Vows ‘Day of Reckoning’ After Deadly ICE Shooting in Dark Rant
12·9 hours agoI don’t get why anyone thinks this will be consequential anymore. We already know what’s in them, Trump’s base does not care. The Supreme Court basically made Trump untouchable by the law…
I mean, I’d take some legal deus ex machina to get us out of this shit any day, but at what point are the Epstein files the distraction from the fact that Americans are being wantonly murdered by the state?

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Tawny Newsome Gives Update On Live-Action Star Trek Comedy – “We’re Ready!”English
14·6 days agoStar Trek is just a setting at this point. Lower Decks proved you can do funny and respectful of the fans at the same time. I agree some of SNW’s campiness is a bit over the top, but I’d rather a show spend time trying to do something different like a musical than be totally reliant on drama/action like Discovery (a show that was actually good on the rare occasion the cast could take a break from universe ending peril).

World News@lemmy.world•BREAKING: Death toll from US operation in Venezuela has risen to 80, according to New York Times report.English
582·9 days agoThis made me laugh. This is the same shit we’ve been doing for 100 years. “Illegal orders” aren’t a thing when you use your imperial military to do imperialism. The last time we had a President that wasn’t a war criminal was never.
themoken@startrek.websitetoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•We live in the shittiest time line so might as well call it now.
1·10 days agoYeah, I get the sentiment, but there is such a cult of personality around him and it’s not like he’s mentally competent enough to be more than a puppet anyway. Maybe losing the figurehead would splinter the fascists…

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•I watch the first Star Trek Discovery episode, I didn't like it.English
5·1 month agoEh, I dunno. The opening seasons are usually weak (TOS is an exception) but looking at Encounter at Farpoint/Emissary/Caretaker and even Broken Bow they all do a pretty good job introducing the show even if the cast hasn’t found its feet yet.
Honestly, Vulcan Hello / Battle of the Binary Stars is spot on for how the rest of Discovery behaves. Pay lip service to science and exploration and, at the first opportunity, trash that and turn into an action drama.
Look on my works Sim Mayor and

So traditional it’s like a Norman Rockwell painting.

Linux@programming.dev•Amber the programming language compiled to Bash, 0.5.1 release
6·1 month agoI agree, but I can envision scenarios where you are integrating into someone else’s workflow/machine and they (or their build system etc.) are expecting a shell script. Python is ubiquitous but sometimes you just want to work like everything else.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Valve's new Steam Machine and Steam Frame and implications for Linux
3·2 months agoDefinitely agree. Had a couple of them and loved some of the ideas (touchpad sticks, gyro to mouse aim, all of the Steam Input flexibility) but they never really eclipsed my rechargeable Dualshocks in terms of feeling right. Taking some of the Deck’s refinements and giving it another spin is welcome.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What movie did you love that had a stupid plot but the execution was excellent?
12·3 months agoI put this on expecting a trainwreck and a cash grab too, but it still had me laughing my ass off. It really felt like they understood why the originals were so funny.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•People whose parents have become fascist, how are you dealing with it?
81·3 months agoYeah, my parents are still basically the same liberal Democrats they were when I was a kid. Meanwhile I’ve gone farther left and the rest of the family mutated into a virulent strain of fascist.
I had no idea that this was coming out, and it sort of makes me want a PS5… And then I check the price and I think I can wait a couple of years until it’s on PC.

14·4 months agoI wonder how many in game days a speedrun would be while still destroying the Caretaker’s Array? I want to dunk on Janeway’s time to the alpha quadrant… Unless I have to run my engines on nucleogenic aliens like the Equinox.

politics @lemmy.world•AOC is plotting a run for president in 2028: report
25·4 months agoI don’t think AOC has that baggage. Democratic voters want someone that isn’t a corpo-centrist running like being not-Trump is enough. Every argument that can be made against AOC could have been made against Obama in 2006 too, but he had a message that resonated and won. AOC could be in a good position to do something similar. I’d sure vote for her, even if she’s become more mainstream she’s still miles ahead of every other likely candidate.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Kernel: Introduce Multikernel Architecture Support
25·4 months agoIn a weird way this makes Linux a microkernel. They’re “macro” but isolated and cooperative. Coolest patch set I’ve read about in a while.
Yeah, I also have this question. I loved playing 1 and 2 co-op but 3 and pre-sequel didn’t hold my attention at all. I’m happy to see good reviews but I’d like to hear a review from someone that doesn’t lose their access if they pan it…

I have a wife stuck in the Adobe-verse and yeah, going back that far should work great. It didn’t become a huge hassle until they started being insane with the licensing.
