And yet, still, somehow orders of magnitude better than the current Nazi GOP. Even if you believed in stupid ass bullshit like purity tests or “both sides bad” before 2020, there is no effing justification for not voting D in 2020 and 2024. If you voted GOP either of those times, you are a complete idiot or a nihilistic troll. You became aware of what you actually voted in for Jan 20, 2017 - Jan 20, 2021. If you voted R again after that, you can’t play ignorant.

7·2 天前Yoko Tawada’s next novel centers around a Japanese near future where all that is left of their civilization is a few thousand elderly Japanese and millions of robots that provide all the health care, farming, etc. that their society requires, but can no longer provide for themselves. The novel starts of with a prologue that begins just after that event which triggered Japan’s eventual descent into oblivion, February 8, 2026.

0·2 天前This. Maybe don’t waste time and energy vilifying them now, but once Trump and his vile sick have are least not in charge of the Executive, then we can talk about what to do with these supposed ‘Trump Mea Culpers’. I say they should maybe get a slightly more comfy setup in their reeducation camps than those that didn’t stop supporting Trump until after the fact. The fallout from this needs to be a metaphorical bloodbath for years afterwards.
The GOP candidate for mayor of my city has been convicted of poisoning and killing 341 dogs. The Democratic candidate once had to kill her dog 30 years ago because it was rabid and violent.
They are both exactly the same. I don’t know who to vote for?

342·5 天前I guess I thought it would be longer before I saw openly vapid, grifitng, right-wing, cult of personality in the office of prime minister of Japan. SMH. I give it less than two years before reasonable Japanese wish their government hadn’t installed this clown as prime minister.

102·5 天前If Russia actually had the manpower and hardware to overwhelm Ukraine and achieve their objectives, they would ahave done so years before now. They are stalling. The west could end this whole conflict relatively quickly if they wanted to. Simply sever all diplomatic AND economic ties with Russia and with any country that doesn’t do exactly the same. China and India would fall in line almost instantly and Putin’s efforts would collapse like a house of cards.

28·5 天前Wow. I would say that measured in an absolute or direct sense (and not compared to or relative to their peers at the time), Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, H.W, Bush, and Clinton were all more “progressive” and less beholden to their corporate masters than was Obama the fraud. Perhaps you could say that about any politician from the 70s, 80s, or 90s compared to any from 2008 - 2016. The Obama revisionism is just so sad.

politics @lemmy.world•The Next Democratic President Better Be Merciless
19·5 天前The only way this will happen is by stealth. That is, a candidate that is mainstreem and moderate and has no history of being progressive or ethical, changes their stripes after they get elected. Any candidate who identifies themselves as somebody who will hold the GOP to account or has a history of trying to do so, will mysteriously never get anywhere near the Dem nomination no matter how popular they are. (cf any honest look back at how Bernie Sanders had the Dem nomination stolen from him both times by chicanery and backroom dealing by the corporatist Dems)

3·7 天前Agreed. The instant pivot to “both-sides-ism” by so many people is a big part of the reason we are where we are today. Always mentioning D politicians in the same breath whenever the R politicians corruption or crime is discussed (when said Rs are many orders of magnitude worse) is the textbook definition.
