I recently read all of the Discworld novels in release order (really glad I chose release instead of some other order) and I think the first couple of books are by far my least favorite. Still good books, but they get much better.

Its a good way, if you don’t mind knowing the first handful are going to be not great.

I generally recommend Guards! Guards! as a starting point and if you like that go back and start at the beginning.

I thing Guards! Is really where Terry got into his stride and if you don’t like that you don’t like Discworld.

I recently read all the discworld novels as well, but I took everyone’s advice about not reading them in release order and I really regretted it. I swapped to release order partway through and it was so much better.

Release order is the way to go. Like, I get why people prefer alternate orders, like by theme etc, but there’s a legit magic to the world building that gets glossed over when jumping around.
