It was intentional. They are doing everything possible to bait Harris into a mistake and distract voters from Trump being too frail to campaign. Trump voters are already racist shitbags. The strategy here is to make Harris seem shrill and unreasonable.

I have seen so many articles about Donald Trump in the last week, and I’m not sure I have even seen one about Kamala Harris. Unfortunately, the media and the online public are both very easy to bait into giving Trump free publicity.

Right. His whole McDonald’s stunt was wild how effective it was. We all made fun of it, but it was a net positive for him from all the headlines.

This is exactly it - I’m on Lemmy, a place that’s probably 35 percentage points more left than the average US space, and the entire feed is similar stories about this rally. The media has learned nothing and in 3 years American journalism may be dead - regulated into state-approved propaganda like in Russia - because of it.

super walz to the rescue. seems like he has played the VP attack dog role pretty smartly. loud enough to make headlines with reasonably pointed attacks, while being “clean” enough to deflect incoming.

The idea that calling out bigotry as unacceptable can be ‘shrill and unreasonable’ is so ridiculous that I want to disbelieve you, except that I know enough about the world to know that it happens.

You can post online that you’re upset that Israel is killing innocent people, and be told that saying that is ‘Russian propaganda’ etc. Anything can be spun as unacceptable, I guess.

I caught the tail end of the story on NPR about how he apologized for one of the jokes and I just assumed it was one of the Nazi Rally jokes and was like “wow the nazi thing is finally getting some traction” but no it was the Puerto Rico thing.

I cannot express how ready I am for this shit to go away.

Where will Trump voters hear about the negatives? The 4th estate is not something they have any regard for or they wouldn’t be on the fence. Newsmax, OAN, Fox, etc will all ignore the racism

It helps him drastically that his supporters do not consider the same things that the media does as “political suicide”. They instead see it as yet more reasons to support him, because he is everything they want to be: rich, powerful bastards with the willingness and shamelessness to be the most terrible version of themselves as possible. All because they hate poor people and minorities more than the rich fucks who are ACTUALLY fucking them over.

I’ve lost count of how many “political suicides” Trump has allegedly gone through since 2015… Yet somehow, here he still is…

My faith in humanity has been severely diminished by the fact his candidacy keeps surviving what in a sane world would be disqualifying events/revelations.

    Unfortunately, I wish it was

However, right wing networks will skip the worst parts. Many of themwon’t even know about the open racism, and they’ll reframe the rest as humor, and claim Trump is hilarious.

It’s even worse than the Nazis because I bet nobody claimed Hitler was a comedian at the time

It’s scary to think how much more openly fucked his statements are going to be in the next few days and as an Aussie, I’m generally scared for you guys

Even if he loses you’ll be in danger most likely, and it will take years to recover from Trump

If he wins, it is genuinely possible there won’t be a few more years left for anyone (he has no problem taking down everyone with him)

This opinion piece was an operatic exercise in wishful thinking. Even as it admits that at least 47% of the population loves everything spewed in that rally, it still called it political suicide.

Oh come on “journalists”, please stop with this “end of the Republican party” bullshit.

None of this will kill the white supremacist party because forty percent of America is still identifying as white supremacist and another ten percent literally can’t tell the difference between someone quoting Hitler and someone Hitler was a genocidal asshole that shouldn’t be looked up to and those morons vote in Pennsylvania.

The Republican party is perfectly fine after this yet another time example of Republicans being Nazi sympathizers holding a major public really where they proudly proclaim their White Nationalist opinions and agenda.

I think the only hope for getting rid of this bullshit strain of conservatism here and across the world is that they hold the same beliefs in the next global pandemic.

My thoughts exactly. Every election cycle, there are a slew of “Republican voters won’t be able to stomach THIS latest revelation!” articles. Then the Republicans dhed less than a rounding error of their voter base while picking up a nearly equal amount of votes from neo-Nazis or the like.

The party of immoral hypocrisy, “shockingly”, doesn’t care about the morality of their candidate so long as they “hurt the right people”.

I will continue to say, and I mean no disrespect to you or anyone else who opposes this shitstain, the fact that he was President once and is very likely to be President again speaks volumes on who the American people are and it’s not nice.

A large chunk of you think this man is a good representation of you on the world stage. Someone who is weak, overweight, obnoxious, loud, a bully, sexist, racist, I can go on. This is who a large chunk of Americans feel best represents them.

People are products of their environment.

A majority of this country did NOT vote for him. He never won the popular vote. He only won because assholes who crafted our systems of power did so to better serve the rich.

We are overweight because of our terrible deregulated food industry filled with garbage and our lack of walkable living spaces in most places Americans live. Hardly any place can be gotten to in the country with out a car.

We are uneducated because the rich have shaped our education system to remove any word about the Pullman Strike… about the original meaning of red-neck… about the bombing of Tulsa… as none of those things serve capital’s interests. So many Americans are angry because members from both major parties (with a few notable exceptions) mostly serve capital, which has allowed people’s material conditions to have worsened to a point that has ripened these same poorly-educated people for demagogues offering them easy scapegoats to shift the blame for their plight.

You can be angry, but to blame Americans for this is as if we have had much say kind of ignores what’s been happening here since at least Reagan’s time, if not longer.

Of course. I have always found it astonishing that anyone can behold DT and think he should be in charge of the country. Of course, same for Limbaugh or all the people in Fox who act like disingenuous assholes nonstop.
